INTERNSHIPS

Are you a New Roosevelt? Join us on our campaign to make New York State’s Legislature and Constitution the Best in the Nation.

DESCRIPTION

Interns will take part in all aspects of running a successful campaign: fundraising, ballot access, research, campaign visibility, communications, and get out the vote efforts throughout New York State. Interns can also expect to build or enhance skills doing original research from primary sources; using online tools such as blogs, twitter, youtube and facebook; learning digital photography, video, graphic design and publishing; as well as learning new ways to use Microsoft Office and Google Docs.

All interns will be challenged with an optional final project to come up with a new idea, research the idea, create a policy position based on the idea, and propose it for integration into the initiatives platform.

Joining our team will offer you the opportunity to gain one-on-one mentoring and hands-on learning in a small group setting. Our informal program also includes field trips, social activities and lunches with elected officials and experts in public policy, politics and reform.

WHAT OUR INTERNS HAVE TO SAY

Christine Seo

Christine with New Volunteers

“I acquired a variety of skills that were immediately useful to me and that will stay with me throughout my career.  I also gained the first-hand experience working in politics that enables one to richly perceive the political process for a lifetime.”

Phil Hoffman

Tufts University 2014

Phil with City Councilman Dan Gardonick

“I was surprised at how much responsibility I got; I was able to be involved in everything the organization did.”

Marc Rider

JD Candidate, SUNY Buffalo Law School 2012

Marc says no to Pedro Espada

“One day I was riding a horse for a parody of an Old Spice commercial, and the next I was drafting a bill proposal and legal memorandum on redistricting reform.”

Lovis Nelson-Williams

Urban Policy Graduate Student, The New School University 2011

Lovis Meets City Council Speaker Christine Quinn

“I enjoyed filming my piece on why I am a New Roosevelt at Kingsbridge Armory. People were walking by and staring at us but it was fun and important to have my voice heard.”

Jesse Towsen

Brown University 2012

Jesse Canvassing on Fordham Road in the Bronx

“Last summer, I worked to promote human rights, justice, and accountability in Eastern Europe. This summer I decided to do the same for my own home by bringing those values to Albany with New Roosevelt Initiative.”
